Originating from Central American tropical freshwaters, Swordtails are a beautiful addition to any aquarium with their vibrant colours and peaceful nature. They are also hardy, easy to care for fish and are ideal for beginners starting their journey into fish-keeping. 

Key information: Swordtails will live happily in a community tank setup, although too many males can result in a dominance hierarchy and territorial aggression (we recommend 2 to 3 females per male!). The ideal water temperature should be between 22-28˚C. Despite the name, only males will have the sword-like tail; this is absent in females. Swordtails are generally not fussy eaters and will consume almost any food provided. Adult Swordtails can reach up to 10cm in length and, if cared for properly, can live up to 3-5 years.
