Danios originate from the cool mountain streams in Asia, in places such as Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Myanmar and Pakistan. Danios are hardy, peaceful, and active, making them a great choice for beginner aquarists.
Key information: Danios are a schooling fish and will thrive in a community tank setup, providing they are kept in the recommended group size of 6 or more. Danios do prefer a strong current in the tank but this is not a necessity. Due to their activeness, they are also prone to jumping out of the tank, so a tight fitting lid is a must. Gender ratios are not overly important. Sexing Danios can be quite difficult as there are little noticable differences between the two, although females are generally more fuller-bodied. Danios are highly adaptable and have an ideal temperature range of 18-27C. Danios are not overly fussy eaters and will eat most dry foods provided. They also enjoy live and frozen foods and should be offered these on a regular basis. Adult Danios can reach up to 4cm in size and will live up to 3-5 years if well cared for.
